Congressman Ellzey's Statement on State of the Union
March 8, 2024
The State of the Union Address is a sacred tradition in our country dating back to 1790 when President George Washington addressed Congress for the first time. President Washington used this speech to voice a vision of unity to move the new nation forward. Instead of using last night's State of the Union Address to foster common ground and bring the country together at a time when the American people need it, President Biden continued to divide our nation and blame Republicans for his Administration's shortcomings. Last night's speech was more of a State of Division rather than a State of the Union. He again proved he is out of touch with the American people. Folks at home are living the destructive and tragic consequences of the President's decisions, and he provided excuses, not actions, to fix the problems facing our nation.
