Project Description and Statement of Public Benefit: The Dallas Police Department seeks to create a Weed & Seed program in Dallas modeled after the original federal program. The program goal is to “weed out” violent crime, gang activity, drug use, and drug trafficking in targeted, high-crime neighborhoods while “seeding” the neighborhood with social and economic revitalization. Weed and Seed is a dynamic, community-based program with 4 components: law enforcement, community policing, prevention, intervention, and treatment; and 4) neighborhood restoration. This funding request would also support the DPD Violent Crime Reduction Plan and the expansion of DPD Focused Deterrence, Expanded Neighborhood Patrol, Place Network Investigations, and Apartment Community Team programs.
