These forums are an opportunity to learn more about the United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, the United States Military Academy (West Point), United States Merchant Marine Academy, and the United States Coast Guard Academy (which does not require a congressional nomination).

“I am looking forward to meeting students interested in serving our nation through the service academies,” said Congressman Ellzey, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. “These events will provide helpful information about the nomination process, what it takes to be a successful applicant, and what life is like as a cadet or midshipman. I encourage any student considering this path to attend one of these sessions.”

A congressional nomination is required for students wishing to enter a United States Military Academy. Successful applicants should have a broad academic background, the ability to pass a physical aptitude test, and strong leadership potential. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens, high school graduates between the ages of 17 and 23, unmarried, with no dependents, and of high moral character. Acceptance of a service academy appointment requires at least a nine-year service obligation, including four years at an academy and five years of active-duty service.

The deadline to apply for a nomination from Congressman Ellzey’s office is October 10, 2025. Because the nomination process is highly competitive, students are encouraged to apply for nominations through both their U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators.
