Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jake Ellzey proudly joined Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) and Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX) in co-sponsoring the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, a critical bill that safeguards middle-class families and small businesses from excessive IRS audits.

The legislation blocks the IRS from using the remaining funds from the Biden Administration's $80 billion taxpayer-funded windfall to expand enforcement actions targeting hardworking Americans. At the same time, it ensures resources are preserved to improve customer service and modernize outdated IT systems at the IRS.

"As a former small business owner, I know how difficult it can be to make a living. Over-regulation doesn't help American business owners; it hurts them. The federal government shouldn't be working to make it more difficult to make a dollar," said Congressman Ellzey. "And that is why I sponsored this bill. Once passed, the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act will rein in IRS overreach and protect taxpayers from unnecessary audits while ensuring the agency focuses on serving Americans. Families and small businesses shouldn't have to fear being unfairly targeted by their own government."

The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act has received strong support from members of Congress, including Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE), Mike Bost (R-IL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Kat Cammack (R-FL), Ben Cline (R-VA), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Ron Estes (R-KS), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Brad Finstad (R-MN), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Maria Salazar (R-FL), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), among others.

Congressman Ellzey remains committed to ensuring that the federal government works for—not against—the American people and will continue to protect the livelihoods of hardworking families and small businesses across Texas.
